Rhine Plain

The sun shines more heartily here than anywhere else in Germany, your spirit soars. The upper Rhine lowlands are the warmest part of Germany. As early as mid-April an Azores High often is enough to make cherry trees burst into blossom, turning the countryside into a sea of flowers. Numerous hiking trails and cycling paths invite visitors to take prolonged voyages of discovery. Breisach, with its St. Stephan Münster is visible from afar, enthroned on one of the foothills of the Kaiserstuhl. Including Baroque around the clock e.g. in the castles of Karlsruhe and Rastatt.

A detour into the neighbouring Alsace with its multitudinous cultural treasures and eventful history, is also recommendable. The Markgräfler Land is wine country. Sleepy wine-growing villages dreaming away between vineyards and cherry orchards in the midday sun. In all likelihood the Romans were the first to plant vines here. At the same time they knew that: just as the juice of the vine works wonders, so does water – allowing thermal springs to bubble in their bath houses.
