Exciting things to do in Baden-Wuerttemberg

Meet people, young and old, at festivals, during sports or at the Biergarten. Visit events like the SWR3 New Pop Festival or the Wasen, similar to the Octoberfest. Relax on hikings through heath and moorlands or woods. See impressive architecture, experience culture in theatres, open air museums or concert halls. Head to the Black Forest or soak up the sun on the 'swabian sea' Lake Constance. There is something for everyone in Baden-Wuerttemberg.

Don´t miss a visit in Stuttgart, the state capital of Baden-Wuerttemberg. Whoever is thinking about Stuttgart, is also thinking about Mercedes and Porsche, about high-tech and the computer industry, about the football club VfB Stuttgart, the 'Cannstatter Wasen Volksfest', the ballett, varied leisure and entertainment possibilities and about the Swabian cuisine like 'Spätzle' and wine.

Constance, the largest city at Lake Constance, invites visitors to a stroll through medieval alleys. The four-country region has an unmistakable flair with its proximity to neighboring Switzerland, Austria and Lichtenstein. Heidelberg, the romantic city with its beautiful castle offers another unmistakable flair. The first university in Germany was founded here. Another well-known university town is Tuebingen. Famous people like Schiller or Hoelderlin did appreciate this city on the river Neckar. A punting trip on the Neckar makes you feel like being in Venice.

Enjoy the baroque feeling of life in the former margravial city of Karlsruhe and the medieval flair of Freiburg's city centre. Are you interested in jewellery and clocks, then Pforzheim is the place to be. In Ulm and around Ulm there is plenty to discover like the Ulm cathedral tower, for example, which is the highest church tower in the world with over 161 m in height. Other destinations are cities like Schwäbisch Hall with its medieval city centre, Heilbronn – which already inspired poets like Kleist, the noble gambling town of Baden-Baden as well as Mannheim, the city of squares or Weinheim, the twin-castle town.

Black Forest Region

Let alone Germany, one of the most spectacular drives in Europe is the Black Forest High Street, or 'Schwarzwaldhochstrasse'. It's not an Autobahn, but a theme route par excellence, that cuts a pretty path from Baden-Baden to Freudenstadt.

It's probably not the Niagara Falls, but Germany’s highest waterfalls in Triberg do exude their own wild romanticism. The Gutach River feeds the seven-tiered falls, which drop a total of 163m. The trail to the waterfalls is accessible all year round. You want to visit the waterfalls in the winter? An impressive scenery. At night? No problem, the waterfalls are illuminated after dark - an unforgettable view.

Not far from Titisee and Schluchsee lakes you'll find the highest mountain in the Black Forest - the Feldberg. In winter, it's a skiing paradise: 50 km of prepared slopes and several snow machines enthral skiers. In summer, it's a dream: how about a ride in the cable car to Feldberg Tower? In the heart of the largest nature reserve in the Black Forest, Feldberg comes out on top!

The Cistercian Maulbronn Monastery Complex is a monumental UNESCO World Heritage Site, that dates back to the mid-12th century. Run to Baden-Wuerttemberg’s Enz district to catch this remarkable relic of history.

Smack between Hausach and Gutach at the veritable mid-point of the Black Forest, the Schwarzwälder Freilichtmuseum Vogtsbauernhof is a fantastic opportunity to experience the inherent and singular facets of the region in one tidy package.
